National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals Receives Motorola Solutions Foundation’s Innovation Generation Grant
Pasadena, Calif. (9/25/13)―The National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals (NOGLSTP) announces a $15,000 grant under the Innovation Generation grants program of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. The grant provides funding for two scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing degrees in STEM programs and are LGBT individuals or active allies of the LGBT community.
The program focuses on organizations that foster and support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) initiatives for teachers and U.S. preschool through university students, especially girls and underrepresented minorities. NOGLSTP is a non-profit organization that educates and advocates for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and queer students and professionals in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
“We are thrilled to receive this generous grant and grateful for the support of the Motorola Solutions Foundation to nourish lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer and ally students in STEM career paths,” said Rochelle Diamond, chair of the NOGLSTP Board of Directors and a research biologist at Caltech.
The grant also allows the organization’s on-line mentoring program in partnership with MentorNet™ to continue and provides travel money for students to attend NOGLSTP’s biannual Out to Innovate™ career summit for students and professionals in STEM. Beyond funding, NOGLSTP will receive ongoing support from the foundation’s employee volunteers, who will act as mentors, tutors and experts in STEM careers.

Since 2007, the Motorola Solutions Foundation’s Innovation Generation grants have provided $3.4 million to STEM education programs, supporting more than 400 school, museum and nonprofit programs across the United States and Canada.
